PCR ESD - Recompound

PCR ESD Recompounds Electrically conductive

Our PCR ESD (Electrostatic Discharge Materials) recompounds are available as electrically conductive HDPE and electrically conductive PP in the color black, with MFR values of 0.1-20 at 2.16kg/260°C. Suitable applications are extrusion and/or injection molding. Due to their ability to dissipate electrostatic charges, they are ideal for the manufacture of products with the same property. These include, for example, blister packs, electronic housings, cable ducts, work mats, bags, gloves and storage boxes or transport trolleys for handling electronic components. You can filter our ESD recompounds according to your purchasing specifications on our product page.

Environmentally friendly materials in the industry: ESD recompound as an alternative to new production

Sustainability is an important topic in business today. More and more companies are looking for ways to make their products and services more environmentally friendly. Recycled plastic offers a promising alternative to virgin material. Find out here why ESD recompounds are a sustainable alternative and the importance of HDPE and PP as recyclable plastics.

What is an ESD recompound?

An ESD recompound is a recycled plastic that can dissipate electrostatic discharges thanks to special additives. It is used in applications where it is necessary to protect sensitive electronic components from static electricity, such as packaging, housings and workplace products.

Our ESD recompounds are available in HDPE and PP. More information on these grades can be found on the linked pages.

Advantages of using ESD recompounds

The use of ESD recompounds offers several advantages: they protect sensitive electronic components from damage caused by static discharge, improve sustainability by using recycled materials and reduce waste. They are also cost-effective and environmentally friendly, as recycled plastics are often cheaper than virgin materials and have a lower environmental impact. These compounds enable the production of durable, protective packaging and enclosures suitable for various industrial applications.

How does ESD recompounding work?

ESD recompounding is a process for producing recycled plastic that can dissipate electrostatic discharges. The process begins with the collection and sorting of recyclable plastic waste, such as polypropylene or polyethylene. These materials are cleaned, shredded and processed into small granules.

Special additives are then added to the recycled plastic to improve its ESD properties. These additives can be conductive polymers, carbon fibers or metal particles that increase the material's ability to dissipate static electricity.

The mixture of recycled plastic and additives is then melted and homogenized in an extruder at high temperatures. The melted plastic is then pressed through a die and formed into granules or pellets.

These pellets can then be further processed to produce various products such as packaging, housings or workplace equipment that offer ESD protection. By combining recycling and special additives, ESD recompounding offers an environmentally friendly solution for preventing damage caused by electrostatic discharge.

The transition to a circular economy: quality control in the production of ESD recompounds

Quality control for ESD recompounds involves several steps:

First, the incoming recycled material is checked for purity and consistency. Then the correct dosage and homogeneous distribution of the ESD additives in the plastic is monitored. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength and impact strength are checked using physical tests. ESD capability is confirmed by measuring the electrical conductivity and surface resistance. All test results are recorded and compared with the given specifications. Finally, random checks are carried out on the finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
