Princess Traveller X Sinox Polymers
As a Dutch manufacturer of high-quality travel cases, Princess Traveler is committed to developing products from sustainable materials to promote and enable responsible travel. This philosophy drives the company to consistently reduce the use of virgin plastics.
From consulting to material development, Princess Traveller, together with Sinox Polymers, has successfully made the switch from virgin plastic to circular plastic for suitcase components – despite different requirements for each individual part.
Customized material solutions from handles to roll holders
The focus of the project was on the individual case components – the handle, edge protectors, case wheel holders and buckles were given their own material solutions made from GRS-certified post-consumer recyclate – without compromising on quality.
Three points were crucial in the development process:
The development was carried out in small batches to optimally meet the individual requirements of each component.
In a special process, the recycled PP materials were upgraded by compounding from extrusion to injection molding quality.
Setting the color scheme in orange and green according to the specifications of Princess Traveler, to ensure an ideal visual integration of the PCR components.
From fishing rope to recyclate
Old post-consumer fishing rope made of polypropylene (PP) serves as the starting material for the recyclate. These old fishing ropes account for a significant proportion of marine pollution, as discarded ropes are often disposed of at sea by fishermen.
The recycling process turns them into recompound, which is then used to manufacture the individual case components:
The result – a sustainable virgin plastic substitute
Replacement of new PP with PCR PP from old fishing ropes
Better CO2, energy and water balance compared to new goods
Injection molding-suitable r-PP compound that can be processed on existing injection molding equipment
Certified by Intertek according to the Global Recycled Standard (post-consumer certification)
